German prosecutors in Wuppertal have announced that photos related to the private life of seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher’s family were discovered during an investigation into attempted blackmail.
The prosecutors stated that the analysis of seized data revealed photo files pertaining to the Schumacher family’s private life. While investigations are ongoing, they declined to provide further details about the suspects due to privacy laws.
The suspects, who are reportedly a 53-year-old father and his 30-year-old son, allegedly threatened to publish the data on the dark web unless they received a ransom of millions of euros. The father is believed to be a bouncer at a nightclub in Konstanz, according to the Suedkurier newspaper.
The local newspaper also reported that the discovered files may include images of Schumacher after his serious skiing accident in December 2013. Schumacher has not been seen in public since the accident, which resulted in a severe brain injury.
His family has consistently maintained strict privacy regarding his condition, limiting access to those closest to him. A spokesperson for the Schumacher family declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
