Phuket, the renowned Thai island destination, is witnessing a remarkable surge in its tourism sector this August. The Airports of Thailand (AOT) reports a significant increase in daily flight arrivals, ranging from 20 to 30 flights, a substantial jump from the previous year’s figures. This upward trend is expected to continue as the peak season approaches, promising a record-breaking influx of visitors.
Recognizing the importance of meticulous planning for the anticipated tourism boom, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin convened a strategic session in Phuket. The meeting brought together key tourism and security stakeholders, including high-ranking officials from the National Police, Region 8 Police, local Phuket authorities, the Navy, the Tourist and Marine police, Phuket Provincial Governor Sophon Suwannarat, and AOT representatives.
AOT officials presented projections indicating that during the peak season, Phuket International Airport is anticipated to handle between 14,000 and 15,000 daily visitors, totaling approximately 600,000 visitors per month. This represents a remarkable doubling of last year’s visitor numbers, as reported by Thai Newsroom.
To ensure the safety and security of the burgeoning tourist population, the Region 8 Police are implementing new safety measures and fostering close collaborations with consulates from nations that send large numbers of tourists, including Russia, China, India, Australia, the UK, and Scandinavian countries. This collaborative effort is focused on crime prevention and streamlining the travel process for a smoother experience.
Furthermore, an initiative to recruit volunteers from various countries aims to bridge language barriers and provide assistance to visitors, further enhancing their travel experience. This proactive approach ensures that tourists feel welcome and supported during their time in Phuket.
With robust preparations in place, Phuket’s tourism leaders are confident in their ability to manage the anticipated influx effectively. They are committed to providing a memorable and safe season for all guests, ensuring a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone.
