Landon Pini, Caldwell’s steadfast goalkeeper, repeatedly thwarted Seton Hall Prep’s attempts to penetrate his defense in the first 11 minutes of the game. Each time he denied their shots, the frustrated Seton Hall attackers and midfielders swiftly adapted their strategies to capitalize on Caldwell’s turnovers. Just when it seemed that Pini’s quick reflexes would keep Caldwell unscathed through the opening period, defenseman Sean Hayes seized a ground ball from Caldwell’s sixth turnover and swiftly moved it back into the scoring zone. With time ticking down, Tyler Juhlin converted a pass from Nolan Sabel into a goal, narrowing Caldwell’s two-goal lead by half with just 55 seconds remaining in the first period. Despite Juhlin’s late surge, Caldwell’s relentless defense, anchored by Pini’s heroics, maintained their advantage heading into the second period.
