Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson has been named to the Swedish roster for the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) World Championship tournament. The announcement was made on Monday by the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation, which also named Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin and forward Victor Olofsson to the team.
The IIHF World Championship tournament will be held in Czechia from May 10-26. Karlsson, 33, has a wealth of experience representing Sweden on the international stage. He has competed in the 2014 Olympics as well as the 2010 and 2012 World Championships. He also participated in the 2016 World Cup.
The Penguins acquired Karlsson in a blockbuster trade in August. He appeared in all 82 games during the 2023-24 season, finishing third on the team in scoring with 56 points (11 goals, 45 assists) while averaging 24:16 of ice time per game.
