PlayStation 6: What Games We Can Expect to See in 2030

With the PlayStation 5 four years into its lifecycle, we’re likely nearing the halfway point of its generation. Given that console generations typically last around eight years, a PlayStation 6 release by 2028 isn’t entirely out of the question. While it might seem premature to anticipate a console so far off, the reality is that its development is likely underway. Large-scale exclusive titles can take over four years to produce, meaning some PS6 games could be in the works right now.

Several anticipated games seem like sure bets for the PS6. We can expect new entries in the God of War and Horizon series, along with fresh IPs from studios like Housemarque. But what about the rest? Based on studio confirmations, leaks, and a healthy dose of common sense, we can speculate about the games that might grace Sony’s next console by 2030.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 3

A massive hack last year exposed Insomniac’s development timeline, revealing plans for a PS6 release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, slated for 2028. This aligns with the conclusion of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which teases a sequel and its villains. With this timing, it’s a strong contender for a PS6 launch title.

Marvel’s X-Men

Insomniac’s leaks also confirmed development of a full X-Men game, targeting a 2030 release. Following Marvel’s Wolverine, which is expected to hit PS5 in 2026, the X-Men title holds immense multiplayer potential. While Insomniac is known for single-player experiences, the X-Men franchise lends itself to co-op gameplay. Will players team up as their favorite mutants, or will Insomniac opt for a solo-team approach like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy? Only time will tell.

Uncharted 5

Following the cancellation of its Last of Us multiplayer game, Naughty Dog is now focusing on single-player projects. We can expect at least one to land on PS5 within the next four years, with The Last of Us Part 3 being a likely candidate. However, for the PS6, our best guess is a long-awaited return to the Uncharted series. Although Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End seemed like a conclusion for Nathan Drake, a sequel starring his daughter Cassie is plausible. This move aligns with Naughty Dog’s trajectory, as seen with The Last of Us Part 2.

Destiny 3

Sony’s acquisition of Bungie for over $3 billion in 2022 was a significant statement. We’ll likely see the fruits of this acquisition soon with Marathon, but a bigger project looms: Destiny 3. The Destiny series has maintained its popularity for a decade through frequent updates and a dedicated player base. While successful MMOs often continue as long as possible, Sony might desire a more modern title to showcase the power of the PS6 and its commitment to PC gaming. With Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion concluding a storyline, it seems like the perfect time for a new chapter, even if it takes a few years.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3

In the realm of third-party titles, the final installment of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project stands out. While details are scarce, the four-year gap between Remake and Rebirth suggests a potential launch around 2028, coinciding with a new console generation. While a release prior to PS6 with an Intergrade-like upgrade afterward is possible, a cross-generational launch seems more likely.

Cyberpunk 2

Despite a tumultuous launch in 2020, CD Projekt Red has recovered and restored fan goodwill. The studio has confirmed multiple projects in development, with several likely to drop in the next console generation. This includes at least one, if not two, games in the next Witcher trilogy, but the most anticipated is a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. In early development and recruiting talent, this project aligns with the company’s historical long development timelines, suggesting a release sometime in the 2030s.

Bloodborne Remake

FromSoftware fans have yearned for Bloodborne news, whether it be a sequel or PC port. We believe this could materialize on the PS6 thanks to Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the PS5’s stellar Demon’s Souls remake. Seeing Sony replicate this success with a Bloodborne remake alongside the PS6 launch wouldn’t be surprising. By then, the game will be two console generations old, making a touch-up seem more reasonable. Although this hope could lead to disappointment, it’s still a possibility.
