At a rally in Aligarh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress and Samajwadi Party of engaging in “appeasement” politics and failing to support the minority community. Modi highlighted the government’s efforts to benefit Muslim women and their families, including the prohibition of triple talaq and the expansion of the Haj quota, which enables women to perform the pilgrimage without a male companion.
Modi’s remarks focused on the Pasmanda Muslims, a disadvantaged section of the minority community. He criticized the opposition for allegedly catering solely to the elite among Muslims, while his government has implemented policies to improve the socioeconomic conditions of Pasmanda Muslims.
The Prime Minister’s speech comes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP is seeking to maintain its majority. Aligarh has a significant Muslim population, with a majority being Pasmanda. Modi’s address attempts to consolidate support among this demographic and portray the BJP as the party championing their interests.
