Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lambasted the alliance between Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh, accusing them of practicing politics based on appeasement. Speaking at an election rally in Agra, Modi alleged that the Congress party had misappropriated the quota meant for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and had instead granted reservations based on religious lines.
Modi asserted that this policy of appeasement has fragmented the nation and that the Congress party’s election manifesto bears the hallmarks of the Muslim League. In contrast, Modi emphasized that his administration is dedicated to inclusive development that benefits all citizens, not just specific vote banks.
Modi stated that the SP-Congress alliance, on the other hand, has allowed appeasement to take precedence over the rights of the honest and deserving. He pledged to eradicate this practice, known as ‘tushtikaran,’ and replace it with ‘santushtikaran,’ or satisfying the needs of the people.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that his government has consistently promised and delivered development for all. He pointed to the 10-year track record of the BJP and the party’s manifesto as evidence of their commitment to ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach all eligible citizens without the need for middlemen or bribes. This, he said, is the BJP’s model of ‘saturation.’
Earlier this week, Modi had stoked controversy by alleging that the Congress had pledged to confiscate the hard-earned money of citizens and redistribute it to those with numerous children.
The Election Commission of India has since taken cognizance of allegations that Prime Minister Modi’s remarks violated the model code of conduct. The Commission has sought a response from BJP president J.P. Nadda by Monday regarding complaints against Modi’s statements made in Banswara. The Commission has also instructed Nadda to ensure that all star campaigners adhere to high standards of political discourse. A notice has also been issued to Mallikarjun Kharge in relation to controversial remarks made by Rahul Gandhi.
