PM Modi Calls for Speedy Justice in Cases Against Women at National Conference of District Judiciary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful address at the opening of the two-day National Conference of District Judiciary held at Bharat Mandapam. In his speech, he underscored the vital importance of expediting justice in cases involving crimes against women, arguing that swift action would significantly enhance their sense of security. This call for swift action comes amid the recent, highly publicized alleged rape and murder case at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which has sparked widespread outrage and nationwide protests.

Modi’s remarks were particularly poignant given the current climate of fear and anger surrounding violence against women in India. He stressed that a just and efficient judicial system is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens, especially women. By emphasizing the need for expedited justice in these cases, Modi aimed to send a clear message that the government is committed to protecting women’s rights and holding perpetrators accountable.

Beyond the immediate issue of women’s safety, Modi also used his speech to reflect on the broader significance of the Supreme Court and its role in safeguarding India’s democracy. He stated, “75 years of the Supreme Court, this is not just the journey of an institution. This is the journey of the Constitution of India and its constitutional values. This is the journey of India becoming more mature as a democracy.”

Modi further praised the Supreme Court’s unwavering commitment to upholding fundamental rights, even during challenging times. He stated, “I can say with confidence that the Supreme Court has upheld the trust and faith we have in our institution…Even in the dark period of emergency, the Supreme Court guaranteed our fundamental rights and every time it was a question of national interest, the Supreme Court always guarded national integrity…”

PM Modi’s address to the National Conference of District Judiciary highlighted the critical role of the judiciary in upholding justice and protecting the rights of all citizens. His call for swift action in cases of crimes against women underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of women in India.
