During the 16th BRICS Summit, held in Kazan, Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful message on the need for global unity and reform. Addressing the Closed Plenary Session, he underscored the importance of a united front against terrorism and terror financing.
Modi’s message was clear: “We all have to be united and cooperate strongly to deal with terrorism and terror financing. There is no place for double standards on such a serious issue.” He further stressed the importance of proactive measures to prevent radicalization among young people within BRICS countries. He also advocated for collective action on the pending Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the United Nations.
Beyond the immediate threat of terrorism, Modi highlighted a wider agenda for BRICS nations, advocating for a more equitable and inclusive global order. He emphasized the need for global reforms in institutions like the UN Security Council, multilateral development banks, and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Modi emphasized that BRICS should act as a positive force for change, ensuring that all member and partner countries uphold the principles and procedures agreed upon at the Johannesburg Summit.
In his speech, Modi also addressed the emerging challenges of the digital age, emphasizing the need for global regulations for cyber security and artificial intelligence (AI). He acknowledged the increasing global divides and highlighted the expectations placed on BRICS to address issues such as cybersecurity, deepfakes, and disinformation.
Modi’s remarks underscored the crucial role of BRICS in shaping the future global landscape. His call for unity against terrorism, combined with his vision for a more equitable and reformed global order, positions BRICS as a critical force for positive change in the world.
