PM Modi Chairs NITI Aayog Meeting, DMK Protests, India-Sri Lanka Series Begins, Mumbai Rains Continue

Today marks a significant day as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting. The meeting, scheduled for Saturday, July 27th, aims to strategize India’s path towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. The council, NITI Aayog’s highest decision-making body, comprises all state chief ministers, lieutenant governors of Union Territories, and several Union ministers. Modi, as its chairman, will lead the discussions on the ‘Approach Paper for the Vision Document on Viksit Bharat @2047,’ aiming to foster collaborative governance between the Centre and state governments. The meeting will delve into the vital role of states in achieving the goal of a developed India.

However, the meeting will see a boycott by four Opposition Chief Ministers, including the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin. This decision stems from the opposition’s claim that the Union Budget 2024 unfairly neglected non-NDA states. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) will hold protests across Tamil Nadu on July 27th, voicing their discontent over the alleged neglect. DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran criticized the budget for discriminating against Tamil Nadu and accused Prime Minister Modi of favoring his political allies. He further lamented that the Prime Minister prioritizes his allies over the needs of the people, urging him to emulate the approach of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister who works for all citizens regardless of political affiliation.

Meanwhile, the sporting world gears up for the India-Sri Lanka series. Team India, led by Rohit Sharma for the ODI format and Suryakumar Yadav for the T20, departed for Sri Lanka to participate in a 3-match T20 and ODI series commencing on July 27th. The series adds a new dimension with the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the coach. Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title this year, will be at the helm of the Indian team for the first time.
