During his visit to Odisha on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a series of engagements focused on development and social welfare. In Bhubaneswar, he laid the foundation stone and inaugurated various development projects worth a substantial ₹ 3800 crore. These projects are expected to bring significant progress and improvement to the state.
One of the highlights of his visit was a heartfelt interaction with beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). PM Modi visited the home of Antrajamai Nayak and Jahaja Nayak, two individuals who have successfully utilized the PMAY scheme to achieve the dream of homeownership. Sharing a picture with the Nayak family on X, the Prime Minister expressed his delight, stating, “Upon landing in Bhubaneswar, went to the home of Antrajamai Nayak and Jahaja Nayak. They have benefitted from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and are proud home owners. Also met their family including their adorable grandchild, Soumyajit.” He also shared that the Nayak family served him “delicious Khiri” on the occasion of his 74th birthday.
The Prime Minister’s engagement with PMAY beneficiaries extended beyond individual families. He had delightful conversations over tea with women who have benefited from the scheme, hearing their personal stories and understanding their experiences.
In a significant development, PM Modi launched the ‘Subhdra’ scheme, a flagship initiative of the Odisha government. This ambitious scheme is designed to empower women, focusing on those aged 21 to 60. Over 1 crore women are expected to benefit from ‘Subhdra’, which will provide each eligible beneficiary with Rs. 50,000 over a period of five years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29. The Prime Minister took the opportunity to initiate the fund transfer into the bank accounts of more than 10 lakh women on this historic occasion.
Further demonstrating his commitment to the PMAY, the Prime Minister released the first installment of assistance to nearly 10 lakh beneficiaries across 14 states. The event also witnessed Griha Pravesh celebrations for 26 lakh beneficiaries of PMAY (Gramin and Urban) from across the country. He personally handed over house keys to several PMAY beneficiaries, signifying the government’s tangible contribution to their lives.
The Prime Minister also launched the AWS 2024 app, a tool designed to conduct a survey of additional households for PMAY-G. This initiative ensures that the benefits of the scheme reach a wider segment of the population.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister unveiled the Operational Guidelines of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0, indicating a forward-looking approach to the scheme’s implementation.
