Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in bilateral meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of the G7 summit held in the Italian city of Bari. These discussions aimed to enhance India’s bilateral relationships and address shared concerns.
Modi’s meeting with Macron centered on strengthening their partnership across various sectors, including defense, nuclear energy, space, education, climate action, digital infrastructure, critical technologies, connectivity, and culture. They also exchanged perspectives on pressing global and regional issues.
During his meeting with Sunak, Modi emphasized the importance of resuming India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations once a new UK government is formed. The negotiations, initiated in January 2022, seek to significantly expand bilateral trade, which currently stands at approximately 38.1 billion pounds annually.
Modi’s foreign trip, his first since assuming office for a third term this month, included a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. These discussions underscored India’s commitment to international cooperation and partnership.
The Horizon 2047 Roadmap, developed during the July 2023 Summit, provides a comprehensive framework for the India-France bilateral relationship, setting ambitious targets for 2047, the centenary year of India’s independence.
