Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embraced the vibrant spirit of Navratri, the nine-night Hindu festival celebrating the divine feminine energy of Goddess Durga, by composing a Garba. This traditional Gujarati dance form is a beloved part of the festivities. On Monday, he shared his composition, titled ‘Aavati Kalay,’ as a tribute to the goddess.
“It is the auspicious time of Navratri, and people are celebrating in different ways, united by their devotion to Maa Durga. In this spirit of reverence and joy, here is Aavati Kalay, a Garba I wrote as a tribute to Her power and grace. May Her blessings always remain upon us,” PM Modi wrote in his social media post.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to Purva Mantri, a rising singer, for their melodious rendition of the Garba. “I thank Purva Mantri, a talented upcoming singer, for singing this Garba and presenting such a melodious rendition of it,” he added.
Navratri is a time for intense worship, elaborate rituals, and cultural festivities. Each day of the festival is dedicated to a different form of Goddess Durga, representing diverse qualities such as strength, compassion, and wisdom. Devotees observe fasts, sing devotional songs, and participate in traditional dances like Garba and Dandiya, creating a joyful atmosphere.
The seventh day of Navratri holds special significance as it is dedicated to ‘Maa Kaalratri,’ a fierce aspect of Goddess Durga known for vanquishing demons, evil spirits, and negative energies. The nine-day festival culminates with Rama Navami, which marks the birthday of Lord Ram.
Navratri is a celebration of tranquillity and peace, embodied by Maha Gauri Mata, one of the forms of Goddess Durga. The festival season continues with major events like Ramleela, Garba, and Dandiya, culminating in Vijayadashami, Durga Visarjan, Diwali, Chhath Puja, and other significant festivities.
