Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party at an election rally in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday. He accused the opposition party of promising reservations on the basis of religion, a move he claimed was unconstitutional and betrayed the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution.
Modi emphasized that the Constitution of India explicitly prohibits any form of reservation or discrimination based on religion. He alleged that the Congress party’s promise in its poll manifesto to provide such reservations was an attempt to undermine the fundamental principles of the republic and divide society along religious lines.
The Prime Minister further accused the Congress of seeking to exploit the religious sentiments of the people for its own political benefit. He warned that if elected to power, the party would use its authority to raid people’s homes and confiscate their wealth, using the pretext of ‘X-raying’ their lockers to uncover hidden assets.
Modi’s remarks come amid increasing tensions between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party as India gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha general elections. The two parties have been engaged in a fierce battle for votes, with each side leveling allegations against the other and seeking to mobilize their respective support bases.
