Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mumbai on Saturday, July 13th, to inaugurate a series of infrastructure projects worth over ₹29,000 crore. These projects encompass a range of crucial ventures in the road, railway, and port sectors, including new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station.
The prime minister will also lay the foundation stone for the Thane Borivali Tunnel project, a significant undertaking valued at ₹16,600 crore. This Twin Tube Tunnel will connect Thane and Borivali, passing beneath Sanjay Gandhi National Park and creating a direct link between Western Express Highway on the Borivali side and Thane Ghodbander Road on the Thane side. Spanning 11.8 km, the project is expected to reduce the travel time between Thane and Borivali by an hour, shaving off 12 km from the current journey.
Among other notable projects, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, worth over ₹6,300 crore. The GMLR aims to provide road connectivity from Western Express Highway at Goregaon to Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. Encompassing 6.65 kilometers, the GMLR will facilitate direct connectivity between the Western suburbs and the proposed new airport at Navi Mumbai, along with the Pune Mumbai Expressway.
The prime minister will also lay the foundation stone for the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. The Kalyan Yard remodelling will improve the yard’s capacity to handle more trains, mitigating congestion and enhancing the efficiency of train operations. It will also facilitate the segregation of long-distance and suburban traffic. The Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal in Navi Mumbai, spanning over 32,600 square meters, will create additional employment opportunities for local residents and serve as a terminal for handling cement and other commodities.
Furthermore, PM Modi will dedicate to the nation the New Platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and the extension of Platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station. The longer platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus will accommodate longer trains, increasing passenger capacity and improving the station’s ability to handle increased traffic. Platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station have been extended by 382 meters, complete with a cover shed and washable apron. This expansion will enable trains with up to 24 coaches, significantly enhancing passenger capacity.
In addition to infrastructure projects, the Prime Minister will launch the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a transformative internship program aimed at addressing youth unemployment. This initiative, with an outlay of around ₹5,600 crore, will provide opportunities for skill enhancement and industry exposure for youth aged 18 to 30 years.
Finally, PM Modi will visit the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat at Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai, to inaugurate the INS Towers. This new building will fulfill the evolving needs of INS members for modern and efficient office space in Mumbai, serving as the nerve center for the newspaper industry in the city.
