Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a historic visit to Austria from July 9 to 10, marking the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 41 years. This visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Austria, making it a significant milestone in the shared history of the two nations.
Both Prime Minister Modi and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer have expressed anticipation for the visit, highlighting its importance in strengthening the bond between India and Austria. Chancellor Nehammer took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his delight, stating that it is a “special honour” to host Prime Minister Modi in Vienna. He emphasized that the visit will be a “significant milestone” and provide an opportunity to discuss deeper bilateral cooperation and address geopolitical challenges.
In response, Prime Minister Modi expressed his honour in visiting Austria for this historic occasion. He expressed his eagerness for discussions on strengthening the bonds between the nations and exploring new avenues of cooperation, emphasizing the shared values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law as the bedrock for a closer partnership.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold talks with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and meet Austria’s President, Alexander Van der Bellen. The visit will also involve delegation-level talks with Austrian officials. Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra stated that the visit will broaden the scope of the India-Austria partnership and address regional and global issues of mutual interest.
