P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Encounter has arrived in Vanuatu, delivering a precious cargo destined for the Vanuatu Paralympic Committee. The vessel carries three pallets, brimming with nearly 400 kit bags, each packed with thousands of essential items. These supplies, generously donated by Paralympics Australia, encompass a wide array of sporting equipment, training gear, and shoes, tailored to support the aspirations of Vanuatu’s Paralympic athletes.
Among the donated items are remnants of past campaigns by the Australian Paralympic Team, symbolizing a legacy of excellence and solidarity within the global Paralympic community. The arrival of this shipment marks a significant milestone in Vanuatu’s Paralympic journey, providing invaluable resources to nurture and empower their athletes.
As these goods are unloaded onto the shores of Vanuatu, they represent not only tangible support but also a beacon of hope for Paralympians striving to achieve their dreams amidst unique challenges.
P&O Cruises Australia is proud to support the Vanuatu Paralympic Committee by ensuring these donated goods can reach people who would not otherwise be able to train, and dream of competing at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games,” said P&O Cruises Australia Senior Vice President Peter Little.
Expressing gratitude, the Vanuatu Paralympic Committee extends heartfelt thanks to P&O Cruises Australia and Paralympics Australia for their generous support. This has become a reality driven by the vision, imagination, commitment, and voluntary support of a legion of individuals and organisations to support Vanuatu’s Hidden People – those living with an impairment in remote villages around Vanuatu. This equipment and clothing will support their engagement in sport, improving their health outcomes, but importantly improving their own feelings of self-worth and gaining community acceptance and understanding,” said VPC President Margaret Macfarlane.
On the 3rd of May, the donated supplies embarked on their journey aboard the Pacific Encounter, departing from Brisbane, bound for Port Vila. After a brief voyage, the vessel arrived at its destination on the 7th of May, delivering much-needed aid to the awaiting recipients.
In addition to this charitable endeavor, P&O Cruises Australia extends its support to the Vanuatu Women’s Beach Volleyball team through the Pacific Partnerships program, funded by our guests. With enthusiasm, we stand behind the team as they set their sights on participating in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, eager to witness their determination and skill on the global stage.
