Mauricio Pochettino officially kicked off his tenure as the head coach of the US Men’s National Team on Monday, bringing with him his experienced coaching staff. Pochettino, who previously led clubs like Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea, was appointed in February and will guide the team through the 2026 World Cup.
He wasted no time in building his team, announcing the appointment of Jesus Perez as first assistant coach, Miguel “Miki” D’Agostino as assistant coach, Antonio “Toni” Jimenez as goalkeeping coach, and Sebastiano Pochettino, his son, as sports scientist. This familiar coaching staff has been a key component of Pochettino’s successful tenure at previous clubs.
The USSF confirmed that Vincent Cavin, hired as an assistant coach under Gregg Berhalter in December 2023, has left the team. However, Gianni Vio, who was appointed by Berhalter as the set piece coach, remains on the staff. Silvia Tuya Viñas, previously with Levante Badalona’s women’s team, has joined the coaching staff as the new strength and conditioning coach.
The US Men’s National Team is now in full training mode ahead of their upcoming friendlies against Panama on Saturday in Austin, Texas, and Mexico three days later in Guadalajara. These matches serve as crucial preparation for the team as they look to build momentum under their new coach.
Berhalter was relieved of his duties in July following the team’s disappointing first-round elimination from the Copa America. The new coaching staff, led by Pochettino, is now tasked with turning the tide and restoring confidence in the US Men’s National Team ahead of their home World Cup in 2026.
