A case of abetment to suicide has been registered against a police sub-inspector and a constable in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, following the death of a 20-year-old youth, Anoop Kumar. As per the police, Anoop’s family was in talks with Kunjilal of Shravasti district regarding a potential marriage alliance with his daughter. However, disagreements arose over dowry, leading Kunjilal to report the matter to the local police.
Anoop’s father alleged that the police initially demanded money to resolve the issue, and when Anoop refused, he was severely beaten inside the police station. Upon returning home, Anoop hanged himself.
Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla stated that an FIR has been registered against Ayodhya Singh, the police outpost in-charge, an unnamed constable, Kunjilal, and one Manoj. Shukla added that a preliminary inquiry has been conducted, and the allegations made by the victim’s father have not been substantiated.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Anoop and his father spent only about five minutes at the police outpost. Anoop subsequently left for home and took the drastic step of ending his life.
SP Shukla further mentioned that Anoop was hesitant to marry Kunjilal’s daughter because he desired an expensive motorcycle, which the family was unable to provide, resulting in the disagreement.
Shukla emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and all aspects will be thoroughly examined.
