The Portland Sea Dogs’ five-game winning streak was snapped on Tuesday night as they fell 9-6 to the Hartford Yard Goats. Despite a valiant effort in the ninth inning, the Sea Dogs were unable to complete the comeback.
Portland took an early 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Roman Anthony in the third inning and a solo home run by Blaze Jordan in the fourth. However, Hartford answered back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, four in the fifth, and three in the seventh.
The Sea Dogs mounted a comeback attempt in the ninth inning, scoring four runs. Jordan had a three-run double and Matthew Lugo an RBI double to bring the Sea Dogs within three, but Mickey Gasper grounded out to end the game.
Shortstop Ryan Ritter led the way for the Yard Goats, going 2-for-3 with a triple and five RBI. Nic Kent added a solo home run.
The Sea Dogs will look to rebound on Wednesday night when they face the Yard Goats again in Hartford.
