Portland State Athletic Director John Johnson Resigns

In a recent announcement, Portland State University athletic director John Johnson revealed his decision to resign, effective April 30th. This move will pave the way for deputy athletic director Matt Billings to step into the interim athletic director role.

Johnson’s departure stems from his desire to be closer to his aging family members. “My time at Portland State has been fulfilling, but my wife Lisa and I have made the difficult decision to prioritize being present for her family at this time,” Johnson stated in an official statement. “Though I will miss the university and the Big Sky Conference, I am grateful for the opportunity to have led a Division I athletics program once again.”

Johnson boasts an impressive 40-year career in collegiate athletics, having served as athletic director at Eastern Washington, Weber State, and Portland State. His resignation marks a significant change for the university’s athletic department, and the community eagerly awaits the impact of this transition on the future of Portland State athletics.
