POWERCHINA International Group Limited (POWERCHINA-Intl), responsible for POWERCHINA’s global operations, has released its 2023 ESG Report, showcasing its leadership in sustainability. The comprehensive report delves into 10 key substantive topics, 13 secondary topics, and 3 general topics, offering a transparent view of POWERCHINA-Intl’s dedication to ESG principles. It highlights the company’s commitment to collaborating with international clients and partners to pioneer sustainable development pathways and build a brighter future.
POWERCHINA-Intl actively tackles global climate challenges by leading green and low-carbon development initiatives. In the Middle East, the company has undertaken several desalination projects in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, successfully converting seawater into fresh water to address growing local demand. Notably, the world’s largest in-progress reverse osmosis desalination project in Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, is already easing drinking water shortages in the area.
In Eastern and Southern Africa, Kenya’s Maragua large-scale water supply and irrigation project is positively impacting 200,000 households in the region. Promoted by the Kenyan Ministry of Water Sanitation and Irrigation, this crucial project addresses local water scarcity and will significantly improve the lives of residents upon completion.
Central and West Africa have also witnessed POWERCHINA’s contributions. In Mauritania, a handover ceremony for a photovoltaic green energy public welfare donation took place at the company’s headquarters in the Nouakchott Region. This initiative leverages the country’s abundant solar energy resources to expand electricity access in underserved areas.
In Central Asia, POWERCHINA projects have incorporated bird protection measures, reflecting the company’s commitment to green development. Through in-depth research on local bird populations, POWERCHINA ensures the implementation of measures to safeguard biodiversity.
In Europe, POWERCHINA has adopted a multi-disciplinary approach to environmental protection. The company has collaborated with professional plant and animal environmental protection firms and assembled a team of experts, including sociologists, entomologists, ichthyologists, herpetologists, and ornithologists, to ensure green construction practices that prioritize biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
POWERCHINA’s impact extends to South America, where the Mauriti Photovoltaic Project in Brazil was recognized with a Municipal Contribution Award in May 2023 for its significant contribution to the preservation of ancient cultural relics.
In the ASEAN region, POWERCHINA has successfully implemented over 200 large and medium-sized green projects spanning hydropower, photovoltaic, and wind power stations in 11 countries. These projects collectively boast a construction capacity exceeding 8,000 megawatts, with notable examples including the Jatigede Dam and Batang Hydropower Station in Indonesia.
Tang Yuhua, General Manager of POWERCHINA-Intl, underscored the company’s commitment to ESG values, stating, ‘POWERCHINA-Intl consistently adheres to ESG values, anchoring itself in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), committed to the path of sustainable development.
