Prajwal Revanna, the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Hassan constituency in Karnataka, has been suspended from Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)). The decision was announced by JD(S) core committee president GT Devegowda following a meeting in Hubbali on Tuesday. The suspension comes amid allegations of sexual assault against Revanna. The decision to suspend Revanna was taken after the JD(S) core committee discussed the allegations against him. Devegowda stated that the party welcomes the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter. He further added that Revanna has been recommended to be suspended from the party until the completion of the SIT investigation. The allegations against Prajwal Revanna stem from a complaint filed by his former house help, who alleges that she was sexually assaulted by him in 2019. The complaint was filed with the Karnataka Police, which subsequently registered criminal charges against both Prajwal Revanna and his father, HD Revanna, a JD(S) MLA and former minister. The Hassan constituency, which Prajwal Revanna is contesting from, went to polls in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 26.
