In a significant move within the MotoGP world, Pramac Racing announced they will end their 20-year partnership with Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati and become the second factory Yamaha team starting from the 2025 season. This multi-year partnership marks a new chapter for Pramac, who have been using Ducati’s Desmosedici bikes since 2004.
Under the new agreement, Pramac Racing will receive factory-spec YZR-M1 bikes directly from Yamaha. This also means that the riders will be contracted directly by Yamaha, a departure from the previous arrangement. While Pramac will remain an independent team, they haven’t yet confirmed their rider lineup for the 2025 season. Current MotoGP championship leader Jorge Martin, who was passed over by the factory Ducati team, is already set to join Aprilia next year.
Lin Jarvis, the managing director of Yamaha Motor Racing, expressed excitement about the new partnership, stating, “We now enter the next phase, one that we have been looking forward to for a long time: the arrival of a second Yamaha team. The new partnership with Prima Pramac Racing will take a different form than we have used in the past. Rather than a satellite team, with this new agreement Yamaha have put their trust in Pramac Racing, and we will be providing them with factory bikes of the same specification used by the Yamaha MotoGP team.”
This move signifies a significant change for Pramac, who have been receiving the same bikes as the factory Ducati teams since 2020. It’s also worth noting that Pramac’s journey in MotoGP began with Yamaha in 2002. This return to Yamaha after two decades marks a full circle for the team and could potentially lead to a new era of success. The upcoming seasons are sure to be exciting as the team transitions to Yamaha and prepares for the 2025 season.
