Prasidh Krishna Ruled Out of Duleep Trophy Opener

Karnataka’s fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of the opening match of the Duleep Trophy, which begins on Thursday, September 5th. Krishna has been recovering from surgery he underwent in February and missed the recently concluded KSCA Maharaja Trophy T20 despite being selected by the eventual champions, Mysuru Warriors.

India A captain Shubman Gill confirmed Krishna’s absence, stating that he is not yet ready for the match. India A will face India B in the tournament opener at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The right-arm pacer has been plagued by injuries in recent times, missing crucial game time. He was forced to sit out the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League, after being a key member of the Rajasthan Royals squad. His last competitive match was in January during the Ranji Trophy, where he suffered an injury during the first innings after taking two wickets for 62 runs in 14.5 overs.

Krishna’s return to international cricket has been marred by inconsistency. He had a difficult Test debut in South Africa, taking only two wickets in three innings while conceding runs at a high rate. His ODI comeback at the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka was also underwhelming. He made his T20I debut in August 2023 in Ireland and followed that up with three matches in the home series against Australia. Despite picking up eight wickets in five games, he continued to struggle with his economy rate, going at 11 runs an over.

Krishna’s absence from the Duleep Trophy is a further blow for the player as he continues to battle back from injury and work to regain his form and confidence.
