The Met Office has issued a warning for thunderstorms this weekend as an unsettled weather pattern approaches. Following a wet and miserable start to the week in the North West, the forecaster predicts an ‘uncertain’ but likely ‘unsettled’ period from Sunday, April 28 to Tuesday, May 7. A frontal system moving north across the UK will bring strong winds, possible coastal gales, and showery weather with potential thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday. Low-pressure patterns will dominate, leading to a greater chance of wet weather in the south and southeast, while all parts of the country may experience some rain. Temperatures will trend slightly above average, but cooler interludes are expected. As we head into May, the long-range outlook suggests a north-south split, with drier conditions in the north and a higher chance of rain in the south. In the North West, a cold night is forecast overnight into Wednesday (April 24) with a frosty start predicted for some areas. Staying dry this evening with plenty of late sunshine, clear skies overnight will allow temperatures to drop, resulting in a cold night with a frost in places. Minimum temperature 2C. Perhaps the odd shower in the east otherwise most places staying dry with lighter winds. Maximum temperature 12C.
