The 5th Presidential International Yacht Races commenced from the district of Bodrum in Muğla, Türkiye on Monday, marking a significant event in the realm of sports tourism. Organized by the Istanbul Offshore Yacht Racing Club under the patronage of the Presidency, this event is supported by the Culture and Tourism, Youth and Sports Ministries, and in collaboration with the Turkish Sailing Federation.
The inaugural race took place in the waters off Yalıkavak, launched by notable officials including Muğla Governor Idris Akbıyık, Bodrum District Governor Mustafa Çit, director of Youth and Sports Musa Kazım Açıkbaş, Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, Southern Aegean Coast Guard Group Commander Lt. Col. Akın Coşkunlar, and president of the Istanbul Offshore Yacht Racing Club Ekrem Yemlihaoğlu.
Governor Akbıyık reported that 26 teams and 300 athletes from 16 countries are competing in this year’s races. Governor Akbıyık emphasized the importance of the yacht races in promoting Bodrum, Muğla, and Türkiye as premier destinations for sports tourism. He highlighted that Muğla is evolving beyond its reputation for sea, sun, and sand to become a branded sports city.
The annual increase in international participants underscores the growing global interest in this event. The continuous success of the Presidential International Yacht Races suggests a promising future for sports tourism in Türkiye. The event not only attracts sports enthusiasts but also promotes cultural exchange and international cooperation.
