Prime Minister Modi Expresses Concern Over Saudi King Salman’s Health
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern over the health condition of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, who is undergoing treatment for lung inflammation. King Salman, 88, is currently receiving antibiotic treatment in Jeddah.
The news of King Salman’s health condition was reported by the Saudi news agency SPA, following tests that revealed inflammation. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, has rescheduled a planned trip to Japan due to his father’s health.
The trip to Japan was set to start on Monday and would have been the crown prince’s first visit to the country since 2019. It was also canceled shortly before he was scheduled to arrive in late 2022.
Despite the postponement of the crown prince’s visit, Saudi Arabia and Japan will go ahead with a business forum in Tokyo on Tuesday. Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman and Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih will represent the kingdom at the forum.
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who handles most day-to-day affairs in the kingdom, is next in line to the throne. The Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi confirmed the postponement of the crown prince’s visit at a news conference in Tokyo, stating that it was due to King Salman’s health condition.
Prime Minister Modi joined the people of India in wishing King Salman a speedy and full recovery.
