Prince Harry to Receive ESPY Award for Invictus Games

Prince Harry will receive the prestigious Pat Tillman Award for Service at the upcoming 2024 ESPY Awards, ESPN announced on Thursday. This recognition honors Harry’s tireless efforts in establishing and fostering the Invictus Games, a global sporting event designed to support veterans, active military personnel, and their families.

The Invictus Games, co-founded by Harry, celebrate the resilience of those who have served in the armed forces through the transformative power of sport. Inspired by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Warrior Games, which he witnessed in 2012, Harry envisioned a larger platform to address the physical and mental health challenges faced by veterans. He was particularly moved by the impact of these challenges on families and the limited support available for rehabilitation programs.

Since their inception in London in 2014, the Invictus Games have grown significantly, expanding from 13 participating nations to 23. The Games have earned global acclaim for their commitment to celebrating resilience, fostering community, and promoting healing through the transformative power of sport.

The Pat Tillman Award, named after the former NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger who gave his life in service, is presented annually to an individual who embodies Tillman’s legacy of service and commitment to others. Last year, the award was bestowed upon the training staff of the Buffalo Bills.

The 2024 ESPY Awards, hosted by tennis legend Serena Williams, will air live on ABC on Thursday, July 11 at 8 p.m. ET. This event will highlight Harry’s dedication to empowering veterans and showcasing their strength through the inspiring platform of the Invictus Games.
