Prince Harry’s Potential Reconciliation with Royal Family: Progress with Father, Work Needed with Brother
Prince Harry’s return to the UK next month has reignited speculation about a possible reconciliation with the Royal Family. Royal expert Richard Palmer believes that King Charles and his youngest son are “trying to reconcile,” but notes that mending the rift with Prince William might take longer.
Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 and moved to the US. Harry’s upcoming visit marks his first public appearance in the UK since attending Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021.
According to Palmer, Charles is “open” to reconciliation with Harry, but not to the idea of him becoming a part-time working royal. Despite Harry’s brief half-hour meeting with his father in February following Charles’ cancer diagnosis, Palmer believes that their bond remains strong.
The reconciliation process is expected to be a gradual one, particularly with William. Palmer notes that “there’s a big job to be done” in mending their relationship.
Harry’s return to the UK for the Invictus Games anniversary is seen as an opportunity for further progress towards reconciliation. The event will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on May 8, where Harry is expected to deliver a speech. Whether this visit will lead to a meaningful reconciliation with both his father and brother remains to be seen.
