Prince Harry’s relocation to the United States has resulted in the termination of his remaining royal duties, according to royal expert Tom Quinn. This recent change in Harry’s primary residence, as reflected in documents related to his eco-travel company Travalyst, has severed his ties to the United Kingdom.
Previously, as a prince of the royal blood and fifth in line to the throne, Harry held the position of Counselor of State. This role entailed performing official duties on behalf of the monarch, King Charles, in the event of his incapacity. However, Harry’s relocation to the US has rendered this responsibility impossible.
A statement from the Crown to Parliament in 2022 clarified that only working members of the Royal Family would be eligible for such duties. As Harry is no longer a working royal, he is effectively excluded from this role.
Quinn interprets Harry’s change of residence as a deliberate distancing from his royal responsibilities. He suggests that Harry’s decision conveys a message that if the UK does not desire his presence, he reciprocates the sentiment. This development further cements Harry’s departure from active royal life and underscores his commitment to a life outside the traditional confines of the British monarchy.
