Prince Louis: His First Word, the Duchess of Cambridge’s Christmas Memory, and the Family’s Everyday Life

Prince Louis, the adorable and spirited youngest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales, has brought immeasurable joy to royal enthusiasts with his endearing antics. From his first adorable speaking role to his hilarious moments at the Platinum Jubilee, Louis has stolen the spotlight with his mischievous charm.

The doting parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, have shared precious glimpses into their family life, offering charming anecdotes about their little Prince. Princess Kate revealed that one of Louis’s initial words held a special significance—a heartfelt tribute to the renowned British cook, Mary Berry.

During the filming of “A Berry Royal Christmas” in December 2019, the mother-of-three shared that Louis had an affinity for Berry. She explained, “One of Louis’ first words was ‘Mary,’ because right at his height are all my cooking books in the kitchen bookshelf. He would say, ‘That’s Mary Berry’… So he would definitely recognize you if he saw you today.”

Mary Berry herself later recounted her delightful time spent with Prince William and Kate during the festive BBC special. She remarked on their remarkable bond, stating, “It was just lovely observing them for those three days. When they are together, he’s constantly touching her arm and looking over at her smiling and she’s the same with him. It was very sweet to see because it was so natural.”

Berry went on to commend Prince William’s admiration for his wife, highlighting his emphasis on Catherine’s significant contributions to his mental health charities. She noted, “It was easy to see that William is very proud of Catherine. He was keen to stress to me how none of his mental health charities would be what they were without Catherine, who puts so much time, effort, and care into making sure everything works well.”

Prince William and Princess Kate are dedicated to providing Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis with an upbringing that balances normalcy with familiarizing them with their royal roles. The couple frequently undertakes the school runs and strives to be present for their children’s return home. They embrace activities that foster a sense of joy and togetherness, such as cooking pizza, baking (with Kate being known for her late-night birthday cake baking endeavors), and engaging in outdoor play.

As Princess Kate shared in a 2020 conversation on the “Happy Mum, Happy Baby” podcast, her greatest contentment comes from being “with my family outside in the countryside, and we’re all filthy dirty.”
