Princess Kate has recently received a new honour from King Charles III. This appointment as a Royal Companion of The Order of the Companions of Honour is a significant recognition of her contributions to the monarchy. However, royal blogger Gertrude Daly has suggested that this could be interpreted as a demotion due to the relatively low rank of this honour within the overall hierarchy of honours.
Daly points out that Princess Kate is the first royal to receive this particular honour and notes that it is generally given to individuals outside of the royal family. She argues that the reason for this is the low status of the honour within the royal hierarchy. Typically, members of the royal family are bestowed with much higher honours.
This honour comes at a time when Princess Kate is taking a step back from her royal duties to focus on her recovery from an undisclosed form of cancer. The exact timeline for her return to public engagements remains unclear, but royal watchers hope she will be well enough to attend Trooping the Colour in June.
