Former Lok Sabha member Priya Dutt has voiced her strong disapproval of a recent media interview featuring a sharpshooter apprehended in the murder case of politician Baba Siddique. The interview, which went viral, showed the alleged shooter, Yogesh, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, speaking freely to local media while in police custody. This incident has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about prison security and the ability of incarcerated criminals to conduct illicit activities from behind bars.
Dutt, who is also the sister of renowned actor Sanjay Dutt, took to social media to express her dismay. She questioned how a notorious gangster like Lawrence Bishnoi, accused of orchestrating the murder of Siddique, could operate his criminal network from within the confines of a prison. She pointed out the blatant disregard for law and order, stating, “Murderers becoming heroes, shooters giving media interviews after arrest, Lawrence Bishnoi operating his vile business from inside prison safe and secure. What world are we living in?”
The murder of Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and a prominent figure in Ajit Pawar’s faction of the NCP, sent shockwaves through the state. Siddique was fatally shot near Nirmal Nagar in Mumbai’s Bandra area on October 12th. While the Bishnoi gang has been implicated in the crime, Lawrence Bishnoi is currently incarcerated in Sabarmati jail in Gujarat.
The recent incident has not only raised concerns about prison security but has also shed light on the growing influence of criminal gangs within the prison system. The ease with which Yogesh was able to communicate with the media raises serious doubts about the effectiveness of security protocols within the Mathura police station. In response to the controversy, Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shailesh Pandey has suspended three Uttar Pradesh police personnel for their negligence.
Yogesh’s interview further fuelled public anger and outrage. During the interview, he made disparaging remarks about Siddique, claiming that he was not a ‘good man’ and had ties to India’s most-wanted criminal, Dawood Ibrahim. These accusations have added another layer of complexity to the case, highlighting the deep-rooted criminal network that continues to operate in the shadows.
Priya Dutt’s reaction to the incident is a reflection of the public’s growing concern about the growing influence of organized crime in India. The incident has once again brought into sharp focus the urgent need for stricter prison security measures and a more robust system to prevent criminal activities from being conducted from within prison walls. It remains to be seen whether the authorities will take necessary steps to address these serious concerns and ensure the safety and security of the public.
