In a significant political move, the Congress party on Tuesday announced that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will contest the upcoming by-election for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. This decision comes after her brother, Rahul Gandhi, relinquished the seat to retain his Raebareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh, which he won in the recent general elections.
The by-election for Wayanad, along with 47 other assembly seats in Kerala and the Nanded Lok Sabha seat, is scheduled for November 13th. This coincides with the first phase of elections for the Jharkhand Assembly.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her enthusiasm about representing Wayanad, stating that she is determined to fill the void left by her brother’s absence. She emphasized her commitment to working diligently and effectively for the people of the constituency.
While Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will now represent Wayanad, she also highlighted her strong connection to Rae Bareli, having worked in the constituency for two decades. She assured her supporters that she and her brother will work collaboratively in both constituencies.
The Congress party has also announced candidates for Kerala’s Assembly bypolls. Rahul Mamkootathil will be contesting from the Palakkad Assembly seat, while Ramya Haridas will be vying for the Chelakkara Assembly constituency.
This by-election presents a crucial opportunity for the Congress party to make its presence felt in Kerala, a state where it has been facing challenges in recent years. With Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stepping into her brother’s shoes, the party hopes to garner support and secure victory in the Wayanad constituency.
