Pro-Palestinian Protests Spread to Australian Universities

Following widespread protests in the United States, pro-Palestinian demonstrations have now reached Australian universities. On Tuesday, a video of students holding anti-Israeli demonstrations at the University of Sydney went viral on social media. The incident occurred hours after dozens of pupils were arrested at New York University for carrying out protests at an anti-Israel “liberated zone” set up on campus.

In the video, students can be heard chanting “Free Palestine.”

In Australia, ports have emerged as the center of pro-Palestinian rallies. Protestors have targeted ships and vessels found to have links with Israel. “I have family in Gaza and they have nowhere to go in the bombarded prison it has become,” said Tasnim Mahmoud Sammak, a member of the Free Palestine Melbourne community.

A number of activists and protestors have also faced arrests owing to their demonstrations.
