For gamers who remember the golden age of the Nintendo 64, *Goldeneye* was a landmark moment in gaming. This spy-themed shooter was responsible for countless hours of late-night gameplay and heated arguments over screen-peeking with friends. Since then, James Bond games haven’t quite reached those heights, and for over a decade, they seemed to disappear entirely. Now, a new developer is taking on the iconic franchise to create a new 007 game, and it seems like a perfect match.
IO Interactive, fresh off the success of the stellar *Hitman* trilogy, has revealed that they’re developing a new James Bond game currently known as *Project 007*. Details are so sparse that even James Bond himself would struggle to uncover them, but we’ve gathered all the intel available so far.
Release Date Speculation
The only concrete information we have about *Project 007* is that it’s currently in development. Even a release window hasn’t been provided. Considering the lengthy development cycles of modern games, we’re predicting a release around 2026 or 2027. However, we’d be thrilled to be proven wrong and see the game arrive sooner.
Platforms
No platforms have been announced yet. Unless development takes even longer than expected, it’s safe to assume that the game will be released on at least the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, following the trend of previous IO games. Since IO is an independent studio, there shouldn’t be any exclusivity deals for this title.
Trailers
The only trailer we have is a brief teaser from 2020. It features a bullet being loaded into a gun’s chamber, accompanied by the iconic James Bond theme. The trailer concludes with the classic shot of looking down the barrel of a gun at the game’s logo. The official website also confirms that *Project 007* will be an origin story, chronicling Bond’s journey to earn his 00 status. It will not be tied to any existing book or film, meaning we won’t be playing as any current or former Bond actor. Instead, we’ll be experiencing a completely new depiction of the famous spy.
Gameplay
We have no gameplay footage to analyze, but many fans hope the game will follow the style of IO’s *Hitman* series. The *Hitman* games already feel like a natural fit for a Bond game. The ability to utilize Bond’s gadgets within large, interconnected environments like those found in *Hitman* seems like the perfect formula. However, it’s possible that IO might choose to take the game in a different direction.
Preorder
Unfortunately, there’s no preorder information available yet. As soon as we have news on when we can earn our 00 status, we’ll provide all the details.
