Prolific Shoplifter Banned from Ten Shops and Retail Park

Christopher Russell, a habitual shoplifter also known as Christopher Sedgley, has been barred from entering ten shops and a retail park in Crewe for the next three years due to his repeated involvement in theft incidents. The 39-year-old, who lacks a permanent address, was apprehended by Cheshire Police following an investigation into numerous shoplifting occurrences at local convenience stores.

On April 22, Russell was issued a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) by Chester Magistrates’ Court. The CBO prohibits him from entering specific establishments, including various Cooperative branches, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, and the Post Office. Additionally, he is forbidden from accessing the Grand Junction Retail Park area in Crewe and from engaging in menacing or abusive language and behavior in public places.

Duty Sergeant Jay Burns of Crewe Beat Management expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the Beat Management Team in securing the CBO against Russell. He emphasized Russell’s history of targeting businesses in Crewe and its environs for an extended period, causing significant disruption. Sergeant Burns expressed hope that the CBO would provide reassurance to both residents and local businesses that the police are actively working to combat anti-social behavior and criminality.

The police urge individuals who witness Russell violating the terms of his CBO to report the incident immediately via the Cheshire Police website or by dialing 101. Alternatively, anonymous information can be provided to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
