Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) unleashed a powerful offensive display, crushing Montpellier 6-0 in their first home game of the Ligue 1 season. The reigning champions dominated throughout the encounter at the Parc des Princes, securing their second consecutive win following their impressive 4-1 victory over Le Havre in the season opener.
The match was a testament to PSG’s attacking prowess, with Bradley Barcola leading the charge with a brace. Barcola opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a stunning solo run down the left flank, showcasing his speed and dribbling skills. Marco Asensio doubled the lead in the 24th minute, capitalizing on a brilliant team move and a weak Montpellier defense.
Barcola continued his impressive performance, netting his second goal in the 53rd minute with a simple tap-in from an Ousmane Dembele pass. Achraf Hakimi added to the tally just five minutes later, coolly slotting home a pinpoint long-range cross from Nuno Mendes.
The dominance continued with Warren Zaire-Emery finding the net in the 60th minute, thanks to another clever assist from Dembele. Substitute Lee Kang-in sealed the emphatic victory with a fine finish from the edge of the box in the 82nd minute.
“I’m very happy because it’s our first home game,” said PSG manager Luis Enrique. “We wanted to give the fans some joy. It was a perfect evening. I felt it in training, the intensity of the pressing increased. We scored six goals but we could have scored 10. Today was our night… the players were incredible. It’s a great feeling.”
Barcola expressed his delight: “I had a lot of fun, I felt free. The coach asked everyone to press together. You have to make a lot of effort, but you get used to it as you go along. I’ve realized that I can make a difference. Pushing the ball like that on the first goal is something I’ve been doing since I was very young.”
PSG will be looking to continue their perfect start to the campaign when they face Lille away on September 1st, while Montpellier will host Nantes a day earlier.
“There have only been two games but I’m really pleased with what I’ve seen,” concluded Luis Enrique. This convincing victory is a strong statement of intent from PSG as they aim to defend their Ligue 1 title.
