Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) continued their impressive start to the Ligue 1 season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Lille on Sunday. The reigning champions maintained their perfect record, collecting all nine points available from their opening three matches.
Vitinha opened the scoring for PSG from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute. The penalty was awarded after Lille’s Alexsandro Ribeiro fouled Ousmane Dembele inside the box. Just three minutes later, Bradley Barcola doubled PSG’s lead with a clinical finish at the far post following a counterattack. Barcola has now scored four goals in the league this season, demonstrating his excellent form.
Lille showed more fight in the second half and pulled a goal back through Edon Zhegrova in the 78th minute. Zhegrova unleashed a powerful long-range shot that found its way past the PSG goalkeeper. The hosts continued to press for an equalizer and Tiago Santos thought he had scored a second goal for Lille, but it was ruled out for offside.
Despite Lille’s late push, PSG secured the victory with a late goal from Randal Kolo Muani. The substitute striker headed home a precise cross from Kylian Mbappe deep into stoppage time, sealing a hard-fought win for PSG.
The victory cemented PSG’s position at the top of the Ligue 1 table. They now hold a two-point advantage over Marseille, who are second on goal difference. Nantes, AS Monaco, and Lens are also tied with Marseille on points.
PSG captain Marquinhos highlighted the importance of the win against a strong Lille side: “It was a very important game for us against a team who play at the top of the table. They really push the team here. At 2-0 up they kept pushing forward, they never gave up. It was a good test for us because it was between two teams who are playing in Europe. Points like that make all the difference at the end of a league campaign.”
