The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced the partial suspension of mobile phone services in Karachi to ensure security during Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to the port city. The suspension will be implemented on April 23rd from 3pm to April 24th at 8am, affecting specific routes in the city. According to the PTA, the decision was made based on directives from the Ministry of Interior to enhance security measures for the dignitary’s visit to Karachi.
In addition to the mobile phone service suspension, the authorities have also closed the city’s main arteries to the public and declared a public holiday to minimize inconvenience. A comprehensive security plan has been put in place, involving the deployment of 3,847 police officers and officials throughout Karachi. The deployment includes the strategic positioning of snipers at sensitive locations to bolster security.
The Karachi Police emphasized their commitment to maintaining safety standards, stating that every possible measure is being taken to safeguard the visiting delegations effectively. The rigorous security arrangements reflect Karachi’s dedication to ensuring a secure environment for foreign dignitaries and facilitating positive relationships with international delegations.
