PUBG’s original Erangel map is making a comeback for a limited-time event, bringing back the game’s nostalgic graphics and old-school balancing for two weeks. The Erangel Classic event, part of update 29.2, launches on May 14th and recreates the initial version of Erangel, PUBG’s first-ever battleground. It’s designed to evoke nostalgia for players who remember the game’s early access days.
The Erangel Classic map features iconic elements from the original, such as the old prison compound, the abandoned power plant, and the popular pochinki location. The loot distribution and vehicle spawns have also been adjusted to match the original version of the map, offering a more challenging and familiar experience for veterans of the game.
PUBG’s popularity has waned somewhat since its peak in 2017 when it set a record for concurrent players on Steam. However, the game remains one of the most played on the platform, usually behind only Valve’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 in terms of peak concurrent players.
The return of the original Erangel map is a nod to the game’s roots and the community that has supported it since its early days. It’s a chance for newer players to experience the map that made PUBG a phenomenon, while offering long-time fans a trip down memory lane.
