The city of Pune is grappling with intense rainfall, prompting the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai to issue a ‘red’ alert for extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas. The plains are also expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall on July 25. This relentless downpour has unfortunately claimed four lives and submerged residential colonies and homes in low-lying areas.
In response to the critical situation, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that if necessary, airlifts will be organized for individuals affected by the heavy rains in Pune.
The severity of the situation is highlighted by the rescue efforts undertaken by the fire department in Pune’s Nimbjanagar area. The department successfully rescued 70 people who were stranded due to the floods. A video showcasing this rescue operation was shared by the news agency ANI.
Pune district collector Suhas Diwase issued a video message urging citizens to exercise caution and only venture out if absolutely necessary, as the risk of heavy rainfall persists in Pune city and surrounding areas. His message was shared on social media, highlighting the importance of staying informed and prioritizing safety during this period of intense weather.
