Pune Porsche Accident: Accused Juvenile Sent to Remand Home for 14 Days

The 17-year-old accused of fatally striking two software engineers with his Porsche in Pune, Maharashtra, was remanded to a juvenile home for 14 days on Thursday after his bail was revoked by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). While in the remand home, the juvenile will adhere to a structured daily routine.

His day will commence with breakfast, typically consisting of poha, upma, eggs, or milk, served from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. A daily prayer session will take place at 11:00 am, followed by an hour’s rest. From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, he will attend classes. An hour of rest is scheduled from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, after which snacks will be provided.

The afternoon will feature an hour of television, followed by two hours of sports, either football or volleyball. Dinner, comprising vegetables, dal, rice, and rotis, will be served at 7:00 pm, and the juvenile inmates will retire to their dormitories by 8:00 pm.

This tragic incident occurred when the accused, under the influence of alcohol, collided with the two motorbike-borne IT professionals in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar, killing them instantly. The aftermath of the accident prompted the sealing of the establishment where the juvenile and his companions allegedly consumed liquor, as it was found to be serving alcohol to minors.

The case sparked public outrage when the JJB initially ordered the juvenile accused to write an essay and assist the traffic police for 15 days as punishment. Opposition party Congress alleged that the juvenile was intoxicated at the time of securing bail for the offense.

The JJB’s controversial bail order, issued hours after the incident, stated that the teenager’s grandfather had assured the court that he would keep him away from negative influences and encourage him to focus on his education or vocational training. The order also required the juvenile to compose a 300-word essay on road accidents and their solutions.
