In the aftermath of the Pune Porsche accident that tragically took the lives of two software engineers, the Excise Department of Pune, acting upon orders from the District Collector, has sealed Cosie Bar and Black Bar. These establishments were allegedly visited by the juvenile driver who was also served alcohol.
The father of the 17-year-old perpetrator was apprehended in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and taken to Pune, where he was arrested on Tuesday evening. Earlier, the juvenile, who was celebrating his Class-12 Board examination results with friends at Cosie Bar, had ordered multiple rounds of alcohol and food. Following his arrest, he was granted bail by a Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board after just 15 hours, sparking public outrage. The judge presiding over the case instructed the teenager to pen a 300-word essay on traffic accidents, engage in community service with the traffic police for 15 days, and seek counseling for his drinking habits.
In a separate development, the Pune police have lodged an FIR against the owners of Cosie and Blak Club, Pralhad Bhutada and Sandip Sangale, respectively, for violating IPC sections related to serving alcohol to minors. The Porsche involved in the accident, purchased by the minor’s father in March, had not yet been registered due to unpaid road tax amounting to INR 44 lakhs. Media reports have hinted at the possibility of the juvenile being tried as an adult for his alleged crime.
The parents of the victims, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, have demanded stringent punishment for the accused boy and his parents, holding them accountable for the untimely demise of their children.
