The Pune Police have confirmed that an attempt was made to frame the family driver in a case where a 17-year-old teenager is accused of driving drunk and crashing a Porsche into a bike, killing two IT professionals in Pune last week. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said that attempts were made to portray the teen as not being behind the wheel but rather an adult (the family driver) at the time of the accident. The Police are investigating these claims and will take action against those involved under section 201 (destruction of evidence) of the IPC. Commissioner Kumar stated that the driver initially claimed to have been driving the car, but they are investigating why and under whose pressure he made that statement. An internal inquiry has revealed some lapses on the part of the police while registering the case, and action will be taken against them. The Police are gathering evidence to support their claim that the accused teen was driving the car. They have collected chronological evidence, such as the security register entry showing the teen leaving the house with the car at the time of the incident. Technical evidence and eyewitness accounts also corroborate that the teenager was behind the wheel during the accident. The Police have assured that the accused minor was in his senses at the time of the accident. He was aware of the potential consequences of driving drunk, including the loss of lives. The Police have accessed CCTV footage of the accused drinking liquor in a pub before the accident and have requested DNA samples from forensic experts to confirm the blood report results. The allegations that the accused teen was served after the accident and given preferential treatment are being investigated, and any police personnel found negligent will face consequences. The Police are building a strong case to present before the court and exploring options to try the minor accused as an adult. A special counsel has been appointed to represent the case strongly in court. As the investigation continues, the victim’s families hope for justice, and the accused will face appropriate punishment.
