Pune Woman Beaten by Car Driver in Road Rage Incident

A 27-year-old woman in Pune was the victim of a brutal assault by a car driver in an apparent case of road rage on Saturday. The incident occurred while the woman, Jerlyn Dsilva, was riding her scooter with her two children along the Baner-Pashan Road. The police have since arrested both the driver and his wife, who was present in the car during the attack.

Dsilva was en route to Baner for lunch with her children when she first encountered the abusive driver at Mahabaleshwar Chowk. According to Dsilva, the driver was attempting to block her path, preventing her from moving left or right. When the traffic signal turned red and their vehicles came parallel, she tried to engage in a conversation with him. However, the driver responded with verbal abuse and aggressive body language. After the signal turned green, Dsilva took a left turn, only to hear the driver speeding up his vehicle behind her.

The driver then blocked her path, exited his vehicle, grabbed Dsilva by her t-shirt, and punched her in the face. The driver allegedly punched her three to four times while his wife stood by without intervening. Dsilva claimed that the other woman also assaulted her as she tried to take the car keys to prevent the man from fleeing the scene.

Bystanders intervened during the altercation and Dsilva was taken to a hospital. The police were subsequently informed about the incident. The case has been registered at Chaturshrangi Police Station, and investigations remain ongoing. Officials have indicated that the 57-year-old man and his wife have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.

The incident has gone viral on social media after a video of the assault, posted by Dsilva to demand justice, was widely shared. The video has sparked outrage and condemnation of the driver’s actions, highlighting the increasing problem of road rage in India.
