Get ready to ride the rails! Pune’s newest underground metro line, connecting Shivajinagar Court to Swargate, will finally be operational today, September 29th. To mark this momentous occasion, the Pune Police have implemented significant traffic diversions and adjustments to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and a joyful inauguration ceremony.
From 7 am onwards, drivers should be prepared for altered routes due to a morning program at the Shree Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch. Pune DCP Amol Zende has urged motorists to seek alternative paths during this period.
Traffic Restrictions and Diversions
In the vicinity of the Jamnalal Bajaj statue in Saras Bagh, starting from Keshavrao Jedhe Chowk in Swargate, all vehicular traffic will be prohibited. To maintain traffic flow, a designated route will be established between Jedhe Chowk and the statue, with additional restrictions likely to be put in place.
Here’s a list of recommended alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion and save time:
* Jedhe Chowk via Volga Chowk, Lakshminarayan Cinema, Mitramandal Chowk, Swatantraveer Savarkar Statue Chowk.
* Traffic heading towards Solapur Road from the flyover on Satara Road is expected to operate as usual.
Similar traffic management measures have been implemented in the Shivajinagar Court area. The following routes will be closed to all vehicles:
* Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Putla Chowk to Kamgar Putla Chowk
* Tofkhana Chowk
To ensure minimal disruption, Pune Police may consider making the route from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Putla Chowk to Kamgar Putla Chowk a dual lane if needed.
Metro Services Begin at 4:00 PM
The Pune Metro Rail announced on X (formerly Twitter) that services on the newly inaugurated metro corridor from District Court to Swargate will officially commence at 4:00 PM today. This comes after the virtual inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 26th.
Commuters travelling from Vanaz and Ramwadi stations will have the option to interchange onto this new line. The metro rail department stated on X, “Passenger services on the underground metro corridor from District Court to Swargate will commence on Sunday, 29th September 2024, at 4:00 PM, after the virtual inauguration by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. From 4:00 PM, direct travel from PCMC to Swargate will be available, with interchange options for passengers from Vanaz and Ramwadi stations.”
