In a dramatic turn of events, Punjab Police shot and killed a gangster during an attempted escape from custody amid a weapons recovery operation in Amritsar district. The gangster, identified as Gursharan, was being taken to a location where he had hidden firearms, accompanied by another criminal, Paras.
As police approached the designated area, Gursharan and Paras, in a desperate bid for freedom, seized pre-hidden firearms from the bushes and opened fire on the Amritsar Rural police personnel. The police retaliated, resulting in Gursharan’s death, while Paras managed to escape by jumping into a nearby river. A massive manhunt is currently underway to capture him.
Amritsar’s Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Satinder Singh, explained that the gangsters were taken to the location based on their confessions. He noted that the duo suddenly attacked the police and opened fire after retrieving their concealed weapons. Both Gursharan and Paras were involved in multiple criminal cases, including murder.
In a separate operation, a collaborative effort between Punjab and Uttar Pradesh police led to the arrest of two individuals linked to different murder cases. The suspects, Bikramjit alias Vicky and Punjab Singh, were apprehended in Lucknow, where they had been hiding in rented accommodation provided by foreign handlers.
Vicky is accused of the murder of Gopi Chohla, who was shot dead in Taran Tarn on March 1st. Meanwhile, Punjab Singh is a key suspect in the triple murder of Dildeep Singh and two relatives in Ferozepur in September. Both suspects have extensive criminal records; Vicky faces 12 criminal cases, including murder and robbery, while Punjab Singh has four cases against him, including murder.
The Punjab Police remain committed to bringing these criminals to justice and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
