The Punnichy RCMP has been actively engaged in combating drug trafficking in their jurisdiction. In a recent operation, officers seized a substantial quantity of illicit substances, weapons, and cash.
On Friday, the RCMP received intelligence regarding potentially armed individuals traveling in a vehicle on the George Gordon First Nation. Promptly responding to the lead, officers located the vehicle parked outside a residence on the First Nation. Upon approaching the vehicle, they discovered and confiscated approximately 14 grams of methamphetamine, 4 grams of fentanyl, a machete, drug paraphernalia, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Three individuals, two men and a 20-year-old woman, were apprehended at the scene. Joshua Fayant, a 30-year-old resident of the George Gordon First Nation, was charged with two counts of possession for trafficking, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breaching a probation order. Tylena Favel, a 20-year-old from the Kawacatoose First Nation, was also charged with two counts of possession for trafficking, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting/obstructing a peace officer, and five counts of failing to comply with a release order.
The RCMP’s efforts extended beyond this initial seizure. On April 20, 2024, the Punnichy RCMP, along with the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in Punnichy as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. The search yielded a significant haul, including approximately 114 grams of methamphetamine, 25 grams of cocaine, 17 grams of fentanyl, over 100 grams of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, a crossbow, a throwing star, numerous knives, and again, a sum of cash.
Two individuals were arrested at the scene of the second search. Quentin Desjarlais, a 37-year-old resident of Punnichy, faces multiple charges, including three counts of possession for trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm. The second individual, identified as 24-year-old Shaylon Mooswa, also from Punnichy, is facing charges that include three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
All four accused appeared in Regina Provincial Court on April 22nd. The Punnichy RCMP remains committed to safeguarding the community from the perils of drug trafficking and will continue its relentless pursuit of those involved in such illicit activities.
